High School Welcome Letter

Welcome Letter

September 1, 2015

Dear Lake Zurich High School Student:

Welcome to the Lake Zurich Lacrosse Club!  The Lake Zurich Lacrosse Club was established in 2002 to develop, support, and promote the sport of lacrosse in the Lake Zurich area as well as provide Lake Zurich High School students with the opportunity to play competitive lacrosse at the high school level.  In 2003, we started the boy’s lacrosse program and joined the Illinois High School Lacrosse Association (IHSLA) as the 30th boy’s high school lacrosse program.  In Illinois, there are currently 86 boy’s high school lacrosse programs.

We are very excited about the upcoming 2016 Spring Lacrosse Season!  This season will be our 14th year of competition and we will have three boys’ teams including Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman/Sophomore. Girls field a Varsity and Junior Varsity team.  The ideal roster size for each team will be 25-30 players.  Team practices will begin March 1, 2016 and generally, games will begin in April, 2016.

Varsity evaluations will begin in early February, 2016.  In addition, during Spring Break boys and girls Varsity will have practices and games.  Participation is mandatory for boys on March 28-April 1st. Girls will have mandatory practices on March 30, 31 and April 1.  All other boys and girls players are encouraged to participate in practices over Spring Break if they are in town.

Player and Parent Pledge Card Signing Meeting

Pledge Card Signing for the 2016 Spring Lacrosse Season will be held on March 10, 2016 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Lake Zurich High School cafeteria.  All students interested in playing lacrosse in the spring of 2016 and at least one parent must attend to sign the LZHS Pledge Card and complete any last minute registration items.

Fall Ball Opportunities

Because many players don’t participate in a fall sport, we offer them the opportunity to improve their skills in the fall.  Both boys and girls will have scheduled Captain’s Practices as well as tournaments and league games.

All boys interested in playing lacrosse in the spring are invited to participate in a “First Look” skills clinic on Saturday, September 19th.  Frosh/Soph will be at 1-3:00pm and Varsity (Jrs, Srs, returning JV and V) will be at 3:00-5pm.  Location: Hawthorn Woods Community Park (HWCP).  Helmets and gloves only.  Registration fee: $15.

Boys Captain’s Practices start Wednesday 9/23 and run every Wednesday through 10/28.  Held at Kits from 5:30-7pm for ALL LEVELS.  Registration fee is $80.

Varsity Fall League begins Sunday 9/13 and continues until 10/25. Games are played in the afternoon and schedule will be posted one week prior to the first game. Games are played at Banner Day Camp in Lake Forest.  Registration fee is $80.  Roster will be limited to ensure playing time.

Girls will have Captain’s practices Tuesdays and Thursdays starting 9/22 and continuing for six weeks. Practices will be held at HWCP from 4-6pm. Registration fee is $120.

Girls will also be playing in the following tournaments:

  • Lakeshore Chitown Classic 10/10. Registration fee $70.
  • Field of Screams 10/24. Registration fee $70.
  • 5 v 5 Fright Festival 11/1. Registration fee $70.
  • Lax Games 7 v 7 12/5. Registration fee $75.

Off Season Strength and Conditioning Program

Continuing on our success from last year we are offering an off season strength and conditioning program for boys and girls.  Our goal is to help our players become bigger, stronger and faster in the 5 months prior to the season.  The program will be held in the High School weight room before and after school starting October 6th.  The program is designed for all LZ boy and girl lacrosse players who aren’t playing another sport. Players who are playing a fall or winter sport or who are in another conditioning program are not required to participate.  They are however required to complete their Max Lifts. The program is not mandatory but is expected for all players.  There is no charge for this program however registration will be required for insurance purposes.  More information to follow.

Winter Indoor

LZLC boys will be holding “Box League Captain’s Practices” starting in January, 2016.  All players are encouraged to register for this seven week session.  Program is on Sunday evenings and runs from January 10th until February 28.  We won’t have a session on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb 7th).  Registration fee is $100.

Girls winter skills clinics will be held Sunday afternoons/early evenings and be conducted by DII and DIII coaches.  Registration fee is $100.

Player’s Fees and Equipment

Lacrosse is recognized by LZHS as a club sport, and therefore we receive no formal funding from the school.  The cost of fielding the lacrosse team is based primarily on player’s fees and fundraising.  In addition to the annual registration fee, each player is required to participate in team fundraising activities to raise $150 for the club.

Fees are outlined below:

  • $550 if you register and pay by February 3, 2016
  • $500 if you register and pay by January 1, 2016 (includes Early Bird discount of $50)

Scholarships are available for financial hardships.  For more information, contact .

Player’s fees generally cover the following team expenses: coaches’ salaries, uniforms, equipment including goals and nets, transportation, referees, field maintenance, indoor practices, insurance, athletic trainers, and league fees.  However, these fees do not cover the player’s personal equipment, which includes a lacrosse stick, helmet, shoulder and arm pads, lacrosse gloves, shoes, and mouth guard.  If you are buying a new helmet, we require that you purchase a white helmet with a white visor.  In addition, All Varsity and JV players will be required to purchase the same gloves.  Freshmen may purchase, but they are not required to do so.

This year we will be holding two fundraisers.  We will continue with our very successful Raceway Carwash Booklet sales and will expand our Mulch Fundraiser.  Each player will be required to sell $300 of Carwash Booklets and/or bags of Mulch. You may do one or the other, or both, in order to meet the $300 sales requirement.  You may also opt out of participation by making a tax deductible donation of $150.

Volunteering Obligation

LZLC is a volunteer organization and our success depends on the help of all players and their families. This year we are changing our policy regarding volunteering. We are asking that every family front a Volunteer Fee in the form of a check for $150 at uniform pick up.   It will be returned IF YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS/CREDITS when uniforms are collected at the end of the season at the Awards Banquet.  You will be responsible for making sure that your family's volunteer hours get reported to the Volunteer Coordinator BY MAY 31st.  If you wish to opt out you may pay the fee directly to LZLC at uniform pick up for $150.  Uniforms will not be issued to the player until this requirement is satisfied.

Online Spring Pre-Registration Process

In an effort to plan ahead we are requesting all participants to pre-register online starting September 4, 2015  The total number of players signing up will determine if we will expand the number of teams offered and hire additional coaches.

Go to the home page at and select the “Registration” link which will take you to the Registration section.  In the Registration section, select the “Online Registration Form” and enter player contact information.  This online pre-registration process does not obligate you to pre-pay the player fees, simply exit the website once you reach the payment screen.  Payment in full is required by February 3, 2016.

If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact Phil Faris at or (224) 224-829-2156.  Also, visit our web site at for more information about the Lake Zurich Lacrosse Club.  On behalf of the Parents’ Advisory Board, we thank you for your continued support!
